Did you know that the Principality is full of terraced roofs ? It is true that from below we do not always see them. But if you are lucky enough to be in the high floors, you discover them !
When she noticed them about her arrival 7 years ago, Jessica Sbaraglia knew there was a potential for the city ! After a little step back and brainstorming, she returns to her first love, when she’s living self-sufficient with her parents on their kitchen garden, and shared with them the meal preparations.
Vegetable gardens in the City ! That’s was Jessica ‘s idea ! Her diplomas of gardener and permaculture in the pocket, she decided to make it real and started “Terre de Monaco” with the aim to foster urban organic culture, especially fruits and vegetables gardens on the roofs, terrasses and surroundings neighborhoods. She is about to celebrate her first business year in June! Until now, it is 2655kg of fruits & vegetables that grew on the 1400 sqm of Monaco grounds! Congratulations Jessica! There are still so many roofs and terrasses to be cultivated!
The Fondation Prince Albert II, the Escorial, Odeon tower, the CHPG and the Monte Carlo Bay hotel did put trust in her and enjoy now the harvests. By the way, Blue Bay’s chief Marcel Ravin, with the 400 sqm of the Monte Carlo Bay garden, uses the products in his menu. Other restaurants in the Principality, like the Hermitage Hotel or the brand new Bagatelle, order now flowers, vegetables and fruits.
Jessica also proposes lessons for 7-8 year-olds in schools (St Charles, Condamine) in order to transmit her know-how and the taste of organic food to our dear toddlers. She did not forget adults with various 2h30 workshops, ending with organic tasting and aperitives.
In addition, she prepares her own seedlings that you can buy at Bricorama or on the Terre de Monaco’s stand during the Condamine market. You’ll find there the products of the day. She keeps us up to date on social networks and in her Newsletter.
She’s looking for a organic gardener to expand her team.
Her seasonal tips for gardening lovers: “it is high time to weed, to dig the ground in order to re-oxygenate it. Then plant tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, carrots, salads, fevers…”
I adhere 100%. Do not hesitate to contact her if you are around, her vegetable garden is always open for a visit!
