The first time Stéphanie Ayre and I met was 15 years ago with our friend Garance! Our path cross again, this time in Monaco. Stéphanie has been living here with her family for some years. She packed her suitcases for Monaco after a decade spent between Thailand, Australia and France; her country of birth. During her time overseas she took a Montessori teacher training course in order to enhance her children’s education, alongside their schooling in the international and French systems. Her Asian life experience also gave her valuable knowledge of other educational ways. She also learned that nutrition has great impact on child development and the brain, which led to  her studying nutrition at the University of Brisbane with specific research on the brain, neuron development and the impact of diet.

Stéphanie has always devoted time to her children’s schools in Tasmania, Thailand and more recently in Monaco. It was natural then, for her to continue in Monaco by participating in the International School of Monaco’s School Council and more recently as a member of the Board of Directors. For her, “the child must be at the centre of the educational system”.

Observing a lack of diversity in the educational system in Monaco for children of a younger age, Stéphanie decided to create Le Petite Ecole, a bilingual Montessori school. It opened its doors in September 2016 with a team of highly motivated and competent bilingual teachers. Stéphanie is also assisted by an experienced associate who has established highly successful Montessori schools in London and Hong Kong, with regular visits to Monaco to train the team in the latest education advances with Stéphanie applying the philosophy and concept on a daily basis with her team.

At La Petite Ecole, everything possible is organic, from meals to furniture and materials. “Maintaining and stimulating the curiosity of the child while bringing healthy and encouraging discipline” is the approach of the teaching at La Petite Ecole with the aim to make every child blossom, avoiding obstacles and allowing a swift and deep learning. I loved the activity of bread making practiced by all on my visit. The children clearly loved the challenge and enjoyment that led through to them enjoying their healthy snack warm out of the oven. Through this simple exercise Stéphanie explained many things were learned and developed;  rigor, mathematics, motor skills, rules of hygiene, sharing, aesthetics, pleasure and self-confidence.

Wow ! Thanks to her tenacity, her quest for excellence and her passion for education, with Le Petite Ecole Stéphanie has brought to the Principality a wonderful addition – and advancement – to the pre-school education choices for Monaco residents. Today, she gives us her best addresses in Monaco.
